How do you play 501 darts?

Each player starts at 501 points. Every turn is three darts, and each dart's score is subtracted from the player's remaining total. The first player to reach exactly 0 wins. If a player's score would go below 0, or to exactly 1 when playing double-out, that turn is a bust and their score resets to what it was before the turn.

What does 'double out' mean in darts?

Double out means a player must finish the game with a dart that lands in a double ring (or the bullseye) and brings their score to exactly 0. Landing on 0 with any other type of dart does not count as a valid finish — it's a bust.

Accepted Answer

A bust happens when a turn's darts would take a player's score below 0, to exactly 1 with double-out enabled, or to 0 without landing the final dart on a double when double-out is enabled. On a bust, the player's score reverts to what it was at the start of that turn.
